A law firm seeks an experienced Senior Defense Litigation Attorney (8+ years) to join its general liability practice in Irvine, CA. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in defending a wide range of general liability cases, including premises liability, personal injury, automobile accidents, and habitability matters. This position offers the opportunity to handle complex cases, work closely with a collaborative team, and develop leadership skills in a supportive environment. Duties:

• Lead the defense of general liability cases from initiation through resolution.
• Manage all stages of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
• Conduct and defend depositions, including working with expert witnesses to build cases.
• Provide strategic direction and counsel to clients, ensuring case objectives are met.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and staff, offering guidance on complex matters.
• Prepare legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and settlement agreements.
• Represent clients in court and at hearings as necessary.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients to develop case strategies and achieve optimal outcomes.

Requirements:

• At least 8 years of experience in general liability defense, including premises liability, personal injury, automobile/trucking accidents, and habitability matters.
• Active membership in the State Bar of California and residence in California.
• Proven ability to independently manage litigation cases and see them through to conclusion.
• Significant experience with case management, discovery, and motion practice.
• Proficient in taking and defending depositions, as well as working with experts.
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior attorneys.
• Ability to make in-person court appearances as needed.
• Trial experience is a plus.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Strong academic record and California Bar membership are required.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the State Bar of California.

Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of general liability defense, including specific expertise in premises liability, personal injury, and automobile/trucking accidents.
• Proficient in case management, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage cases from start to finish.
• Leadership and mentoring skills to guide junior attorneys and staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Trial experience preferred.
