Head of Construction Defect Claims

Job Responsibilities

The Head of Construction Defect Claims at the company is responsible for leading a large team in handling all aspects of construction defect claims. This role requires a thorough understanding of the business and best-in-class claims handling. Key responsibilities include:

- Developing and overseeing the performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of highly complex and severe liability claims.
- Creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and develop new skills, ensuring continuous talent development.
- Monitoring team performance and analyzing trends to identify root causes of problems, escalating issues, or recommending solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocating for process efficiencies and continuous improvement in claim workflows.
- Fostering a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, providing continuous coaching, and recognizing employee achievements.
- Building an understanding of customer service excellence to meet and exceed stakeholders' expectations.
- Identifying changes in claim best practices and technology to drive high-quality outcomes and developing training solutions to embed and sustain those practices.
- Collaborating with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Developing coverage acumen and ensuring proactive management of litigation.

Education and Experience Information

Candidates for the Head of Construction Defect Claims position should possess the following qualifications:

- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, particularly in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required, with an advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), preferred.
- Experience in managing a diverse group of claims teams across multiple locations.
- Ability to directly manage and guide a team of Managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims.
- Participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on coverage, liability, and damage assessment issues.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills, including planning, organizing, delegating, and developing direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence through superior written and oral communication.
- Emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Openness to change and constructive feedback.
