Job Overview:
A Columbia, MD-based law firm is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Business Litigation Associate to join its dynamic legal team. This role involves high-stakes, multifaceted litigation across a broad spectrum of commercial and corporate legal issues. The successful candidate will bring a blend of trial-readiness, analytical rigor, and strategic advocacy, supporting a diverse client base in complex disputes.
Duties:
Represent clients in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and arbitration forums
Manage and develop case strategy from inception through resolution
Draft and argue motions, handle discovery processes, and participate in trials and hearings
Provide legal counsel on commercial disputes, insurance-related issues, corporate governance matters, and collections
Navigate claims involving civil rights and regulatory compliance
Collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop case solutions
Engage in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of substantive litigation experience
Familiarity with commercial litigation and corporate dispute resolution
Proven ability to manage multiple litigation matters independently
Admitted to practice in Maryland, DC, or VA bar admissions preferred
Education:
Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school
Strong academic performance with a demonstrated commitment to litigation practice
Certifications:
Active membership in good standing with the Maryland State Bar
Additional certifications or Bar admissions (., DC, VA) are considered advantageous
Skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong legal research and analytical thinking capabilities
Experience drafting litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs
Trial advocacy, negotiation, and client counseling proficiency
Comfortable working in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
Prior clerkship or arbitration experience is considered a plus
