The Unified Court System of the State of New York is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Court Attorney in the **Members Only**. This is a non-competitive and confidential position with a base salary of $82,198 plus $4,775 location pay. The selected candidate will be assigned to the Help Center and will be responsible for assisting applicants with petitions and affidavits, providing procedural information to unrepresented litigants, and acting as a liaison to statewide Help Center administration. Job Description:
- Research and analyze legal issues and questions
- Serve in a confidential capacity and under supervision of judges
- Assist judges in Supreme Court, County Court, Surrogate's Court, and other courts
- Provide procedural information to unrepresented litigants
- Act as a liaison to statewide Help Center administration
- Collect and report statistical information
- May be assigned to judges designated as Acting Justices of the Supreme Court
Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Graduation from an accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar within 18 months of appointment
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist applicants with petitions and affidavits
- Staff the Help Center and provide procedural information to unrepresented litigants
- Assist unrepresented litigants in using Do-It-Yourself computer programs to generate court forms and information sheets
- Answer general questions from the public
- Provide forms and direct the public to proper departments for assistance
- Review court papers
- Collect and report statistical information
- Act as a liaison to statewide Help Center administration
