Job Title:
AVP/VP, Commercial General Liability Claims

Job Responsibilities:
The AVP/VP, Commercial General Liability Claims is responsible for managing and overseeing a team of claims professionals within the Claims Division, specifically focusing on casualty claims pertaining to coverage, liability, and damages in middle market commercial accounts. Key responsibilities include:

- Providing technical expertise and oversight to Claims Examiners, particularly in the analysis and handling of complex claims and coverage issues.
- Managing the Trial Committee process, which includes reviewing cases set for trial, assisting in developing resolution strategies, and overseeing the reporting process to the Home Office.
- Traveling within the United States to attend mediations and trials for complex cases.
- Completing reviews of general liability and automobile liability reserve accounts.
- Overseeing control activities, such as the BI Predictive Modeling System, reviewing large loss snapshots, and conducting reserve reviews.
- Conducting training sessions on current topics and facilitating partnership calls with internal and external stakeholders to discuss concerns with underwriting, actuarial, and risk engineering team members.
- Partnering with other business unit leadership to ensure consistency in processes and quality claim handling across business units.
- Identifying opportunities for loss cost reduction and supporting strategies to improve financial outcomes.
- Addressing state and federal regulatory issues, including Medicare issues, state insurance department audits/complaints, and state workers compensation board requirements.
- Working on various claims-related projects as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Juris Doctor (JD) preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the insurance industry, specifically handling coverage issues and New York Labor Law claims.
- 5-7 years of experience in a multi-line role as a front-line claims adjuster/supervisor, along with experience in a service/account management capacity.
- Detailed technical knowledge in automobile and general liability claims handling, with the ability to advise Claims Examiners on complex injury and property damage cases. Knowledge of construction-related claims is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Experience in liability claims audits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

- Excellent presentation skills and decision-making capabilities in a team-based setting.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 10%.

Salary Information:
The base salary range for this position is between $129,000 and $200,000 per year, as of the time of posting. The position is incentive eligible, and total individual compensation (including base salary, short and long-term incentives) will consider various factors such as geographic location, scope and responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability, specialization, and business needs. The salary range may be subject to future modifications.
