Job Title: Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal)
Job Responsibilities:
As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Criminal Division, the primary responsibilities include prosecuting federal crimes encompassing a wide range of offenses. These offenses include drug trafficking and smuggling, child exploitation, gang activity and violence, illegal immigration, national security and border security issues, elder abuse, cybercrime, intellectual property theft, and financial crimes such as complex fraud or corruption in government, health care, banking, securities, corporate activities, federal procurement, bankruptcies, and federal taxation. The role involves working collaboratively with law enforcement agencies to investigate these crimes, conducting legal research, preparing briefs, and representing the United States in hearings, trials, and appeals. Day-to-day duties also include collaborating with law enforcement and other entities to investigate criminal conduct, drafting legal documents such as motions and search warrants, appearing before grand juries, and participating in court proceedings. As attorneys gain experience and training, their responsibilities and the complexity of their assignments will increase.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires applicants to possess a Juris Doctor (.) Degree and be an active member in good standing of the bar in any . jurisdiction. A minimum of three years of experience as a licensed attorney is necessary, which may include post-law school judicial clerkships. This experience should involve preparing for, participating in, and/or reviewing formal hearings or trials related to litigation at the federal, state, or local court level.

Preference is given to candidates with strong academic backgrounds, excellent organizational skills, superior legal writing and research abilities, demonstrated analytical skills, good judgment and courtroom skills, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service.
Salary Information:
The salary for the Assistant United States Attorney is administratively determined and is influenced by the number of years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is from $99,311 to $195,100, which includes a % locality pay.
Security and Other Requirements:
Initial employment is contingent upon satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, which includes fingerprinting, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment requires a favorable background investigation outcome. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must certify registration with the Selective Service System or prove exemption under the Selective Service Law.
Residency Requirements mandate that Assistant United States Attorneys generally reside in the district to which they are appointed or within 25 miles thereof. For a total of three years out of the five years immediately prior to applying, applicants must have resided in the ., worked overseas in a Federal or military capacity, or been a dependent of a Federal or military employee serving overseas.
