Job Title: Staff Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney at the organization is tasked with the delivery of legal services, which includes the legal supervision of assigned advocate/investigators. The role requires providing legal representation to clients and the organization across various forums. The Staff Attorney is expected to appear in administrative hearings, state and federal courts, and state agency and legislative meetings. They are also responsible for providing advocacy, education, outreach, and other services related to disability issues. The position offers an opportunity to work for a dynamic organization focused on protecting and advocating for the rights of people with disabilities.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A passion for working on behalf of people with disabilities.
- Membership in the Florida Bar and eligibility to become a member of the Florida . District Courts and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.
- A basic understanding of civil rights laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, Rehabilitation Act, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Fair Housing Act.
- Knowledge of current state and federal law, regulations, court and administrative procedures, and rules of professional conduct.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking professionally in English, including a working knowledge of correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and legal citation.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Sound professional judgment and ability to interface effectively with staff at all levels and maintain productive working relationships.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team with other professionals.
- Proficiency with electronic legal research systems.
- Experience working with and/or sensitivity to persons with disabilities, especially in institutional settings.
- Proficiency with PC and Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Word, as well as familiarity with client databases and data reporting.
- Availability to travel, sometimes on short notice, throughout Florida, including rural areas.
- Government clearance by the United States Government Office of Personnel Management is required.
- Favorable background check required.

Preferred Qualifications:
- A passion for working with mission-driven organizations.
- Prior work experience with a public organization, non-profit organization, or law firm, or similar experience.
- Knowledge of and experience working with people with disabilities.

Salary Information:
The starting salary for the Staff Attorney position is $73,000, which may be higher depending on experience.
