Supervising Attorney - Detained Minors Project
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent young individuals aged 12 to 21 in immigration matters, including Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), asylum, U Visas, T Visas, and proceedings before family and immigration court.
- Supervise junior attorneys, fellows, paralegals, social workers, and administrative assistants by observing client interactions and court work, reviewing written work, and appearing with and supporting junior attorneys in court.
- Oversee paralegals and social workers during intakes, client meetings, and case management tasks.
- Train employees in grant compliance, case management, and office procedures.
- Facilitate internal and external referrals to education, health care, and other services.
- Lead initiatives that advance the legal rights of youth and create opportunities for youth engagement.
- Assist with legal education efforts, which include planning and providing workshops, producing legal education materials, and conducting outreach to social service and community-based organizations.
- Document and report service delivery to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
- Represent the organization before courts, agencies, local coalitions, and other external stakeholders.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Managing Attorney and/or Director.
Education and Experience:
- Must possess a . degree and be admitted to the New York State Bar.
- Require a minimum of 3 years of experience in immigration law, including removal defense, SIJS, asylum, U and T visas, or a comparable field.
- Interest in a comprehensive approach to addressing the needs of young people is essential.
- Must be a creative thinker with superior communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, time management, and record-keeping abilities are necessary. Candidates should be able to work independently, assess priorities, take initiative, handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to work collaboratively and effectively interact with young people, management, and program staff.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Knowledge and ability to apply positive youth development principles when working with young people.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish is mandatory.
Salary Information:
The salary range for this full-time position is between $82, and $95, per year.
Additional Information:
- Work Schedule: Full time, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week.
