Director, Tax - Indirect (Transaction Tax Compliance)
Job Responsibilities:
The Director of Indirect Tax leads the transaction tax compliance team, working closely with US taxing jurisdictions, internal stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with transaction tax reporting requirements and accounting functions. Key responsibilities include:
- Mentoring and developing team members by providing ongoing feedback and identifying growth opportunities.
- Managing the monthly tax data processes and reviewing and approving returns prepared by an external provider.
- Participating in monthly close activities to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Certifying account reconciliations for transaction tax accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Leading transaction tax SOX reporting and maintaining strong internal controls.
- Collaborating with Sales Tax Operations, Indirect Tax Audit, and Tax Technology and Data teams to enhance processes and governance.
- Consulting on new business initiatives to implement proper reporting and accounting controls.
- Conducting tax research and providing technical advice on reporting requirements.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to current workflows.
- Working with data and technology teams to guide their short and long-term roadmaps.
- Establishing and enforcing KPIs to measure team effectiveness and business responsiveness.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires:
- An advanced degree or certification related to taxation, such as a JD, LLM, Master's Degree, CPA, or CMI.
- 12+ years of overall experience in taxation or a related area.
- 8+ years of experience in sales tax.
- 6+ years in a leadership position.
- Experience at global companies in retail and e-commerce industries.
- Expertise in setting standard procedures for compliance and accounting activities in a cross-functional environment.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, data tools, and tax software designed for corporate scale.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 5 years of experience in accounting, income tax compliance, payroll tax, or a related area OR 7 years of experience in accounting, income tax compliance, payroll tax, or a related area.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leading cross-functional projects.
- License to practice law in at least one state.
- ., Master's in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, or Law.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Certificate.
Salary Information:
The annual salary range for this position is $130,,. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and may also include stock options.
