Job Responsibilities:
- Supreme Court law clerks work with justices on complex cases, focusing on intricate legal issues.
- Appellate Division law clerks conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions.
- Law clerks for assignment judges learn court administration aspects and assist with processing emergent motions.
- Trial court law clerks gain practical experience, observe judicial proceedings, attend conferences, receive mediation training, and mediate small claims cases.
- Tax Court law clerks perform duties similar to those in the Appellate Division and trial courts but do not mediate cases.
- Law clerks in various divisions (Family, Civil, Criminal, General Equity) handle specific tasks such as legal research, drafting legal orders, managing case files, and assisting in remote proceedings.
- Maintain regular communication with attorneys, litigants, and court staff.

Education and Experience Information:
- Must graduate from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the start of their law clerk appointment.
- The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those graduating within the last four years.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential.
- Mediation experience is beneficial, and selected clerks must complete Judiciary-sponsored mediation training or its equivalent.

Salary Information:
- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity and Family): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900
- Salaries are based on a 52-week court term plus a one or two-week overlap, with separate weekly rates for the overlap period. Salaries for the 2025-2026 term will be determined based on funding availability.

- The Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule with up to four days per month of remote work, requiring high-speed home internet and multifactor authentication on a phone or tablet.
- Law clerks may hold outside employment with prior approval, as per the Code of Conduct for Judiciary Employees.
- A valid New Jersey driver's license is required if operating a vehicle is necessary for job duties.
- US citizenship is not required, but candidates must be authorized to work in the US.
