Job Title: Program Director & Senior Attorney, Justice Project
Job Responsibilities:
The Program Director & Senior Attorney for the Justice Project will manage the strategic direction and implementation of initiatives related to policing and criminalization projects. The responsibilities include:
- Developing a strategic plan for the Justice Project, which involves identifying and overseeing litigation, advocacy, policy, organizing, and outreach initiatives.
- Planning program and project activities, developing new initiatives in response to political and legal developments, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policy.
- Cultivating a broad and effective network of partners, maintaining existing partnerships, and developing new relationships.
- Participating in all aspects of federal and state civil and appellate litigation, including identifying litigation strategies, conducting legal research, and drafting legal documents.
- Serving as a subject matter expert on issues related to the criminalization of people of color, such as policing, the closing of jails and prisons, and abolition.
- Providing education, training, reports, and feedback to team members and organization-wide on issues related to assigned programs/projects.
- Identifying funding opportunities and collaborating with the Development team to pursue them.
- Collaborating with other teams on the management and planning of programs and project efforts, ensuring a cross-programmatic and interdisciplinary approach.
- Leading and providing direction to team members of the Justice Project, developing plans and strategies to meet team goals and assisting with the development of organizational goals and strategies.
- Identifying the need for, developing, modifying, and maintaining team policies and procedures, incorporating best practices, and addressing changes in the legal landscape and cultural environment.
- Disseminating, implementing, and enforcing organization and team standards, policies, and procedures, providing proper guidance to those carrying out related duties.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in a similar position or performing similar tasks.
- Knowledge of legal and policy issues surrounding civil rights, policing, and criminalization projects, including mentoring and training staff attorneys.
- Juris Doctorate (.) from an accredited college or university.
- License to practice law in Washington . or the ability to waive into the Washington . bar.
- At least three years of experience managing people.
- Ability to frequently travel locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Ability to occasionally work evenings and periodically work weekends, as needed.
Salary Information:
The salary for this position ranges from $132, to $166,, depending on experience.
Candidates are required to submit two writing samples with their cover letter.
