Job Title: Attorney – Appeals

Job Responsibilities:
The Attorney in the Appeals Program at the organization is responsible for providing legal representation in criminal and family court appeals. The role involves:

- Advocating for indigent defense as part of the organization's mission to promote equal justice under the law.
- Working under supervision and in collaboration with a team of Law Assistants to ensure fair, ethical, and effective advocacy.
- Engaging in appellate defender duties for Onondaga County, representing clients before the Fourth Department and Court of Appeals.
- Rectifying errors in trial cases and promoting justice while advocating for systemic change.
- Providing high-quality public defense representation in a supportive and collaborative environment.

Education and Experience Information:
- Admission or pending admission to the New York Bar, or the ability to obtain admission within a reasonable timeframe is required.
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills are essential.
- A commitment to helping people in need is crucial for this role.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team is required.
- Candidates should have diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.

Salary Information:
- The base salary for attorneys admitted to the New York Bar ranges from $80,500 to $105,018 annually, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
- Law graduates awaiting admission to the Bar and eligible for a practice order start at a salary of $70,500 and will receive a $10,000 increase upon admission.

- From Memorial Day until Labor Day, staff can frequently take advantage of summer hours and leave at 4:00 pm.
