Job Title: Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Handle a caseload of predominantly low to moderate complexity, ensuring high quality and proactive case management.
- Develop and apply effective trial skills and techniques to litigate cases to verdict.
- Conduct legal research and demonstrate strong and persuasive legal writing and presentation skills.
- Supervise research projects delegated to Associate Counsel and paralegals.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
- Attend court events and other appointments independently.
- Understand and meet Claim and client expectations, providing recommendations and case analysis on appropriate file-handling strategies.
- Build and maintain strong internal and external client and business partner relationships.
- Utilize support staff effectively, adhering to office protocols and best practices.
- Follow best practices in file handling and fully utilize available technology, case management systems, and automation.
- Travel as required to meet business needs.
- Provide advice and training to Claim partners and clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctorate; graduate of an accredited law school.
- A minimum of one year of litigation practice or prior legal experience is required.
- Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required.
- Valid driver’s license required depending on the location.
- Ideal candidates should have 3+ years of prior litigation practice or prior legal experience, with exposure to insurance litigation work being desirable.
- Developing a track record of trial skills and techniques is preferred.
- Ability to analyze legal issues with minimal supervision and articulate positions clearly and succinctly.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality legal work and professional development.
- Strong research, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members and others.
Salary Information:
- The annual base salary range for this position is $101, – $167,, which represents a nationwide market range and varies based on factors such as scope, complexity, location, skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate.
- Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of the comprehensive compensation and benefits program.
