Markel is seeking a Senior Claims Examiner for their Professional Liability team. This role will be responsible for handling moderate to high complexity and high exposure claims, with a focus on legal malpractice, accountants, and financial advisor professional liability. The successful candidate will have 5-10+ years of experience in professional liability claims or litigation, and a college degree or professional designation (JD preferred). This is a full-time position, with a hybrid working schedule of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. Markel offers competitive benefits and a salary range of $83,600 - $110,760, with 15% bonus potential. Responsibilities:

- Investigate, negotiate, and settle complex primary and excess policy legal malpractice, accountants, and financial advisor professional liability claims
- Analyze coverage under primary and excess professional liability insurance policies and make coverage determinations
- Manage litigation filed nationwide against insureds
- Communicate with underwriting and other stakeholders to manage claims and provide updates
- Proactively work towards the expeditious and economical resolution of claims
- Train and serve as a technical referral point for other team members
- Contribute to and assist in the implementation of initiatives brought forth by the Claims Manager
- Actively participate in agent-related functions and meetings
- Provide ongoing training and development for claims examiners

Requirements:

- 5-10+ years of professional liability claims or litigation experience
- College degree and/or professional designation required, JD preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Sound comprehension of insurance coverage for professional liability policies
- Ability to analyze and convey summations of complex issues both verbally and in writing
- Experience in determining contractual obligations, insurance coverage analyses, and investigations
- Ability to manage complex litigation, set loss and expense reserves, and evaluate settlement values
- Strong collaborative team player with the ability to self-manage a high volume caseload
- Willingness to travel as necessary (approximately 20%)

- Base salary based on job-relevant education, experience, training, licensure, and other factors
- National average salary for this role is $83,600 - $110,760 with 15% bonus potential
