EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: Court Attorney Position in Erie County, New York

The Unified Court System of the State of New York is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Court Attorney position in the Supreme and County Courts of Erie County. This is a non-competitive and confidential position with a base salary of $119,638. The position will be filled in one of the following titles, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant:

- Associate Court Attorney (JG - 30)

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Five (5) years of relevant legal experience, including up to 18 months of pre-admission experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Research and analyze complex legal issues and questions
- May supervise attorneys and support staff in one or more courts
- Serve in a confidential capacity under supervision of judges or groups of judges in various courts within the state
- May be assigned to judges designated as Acting Justices of the Supreme Court for one full term or less

LOCATION:
- 8th Judicial District, Erie County

CLASSIFICATION:
- Non-competitive and confidential

ASSIGNMENT:
- This position will be assigned to the Help Center, where duties include:
- Staffing the Help Center and providing procedural information to unrepresented litigants
- Assisting unrepresented litigants in using Do-It-Yourself computer programs to generate court forms and information sheets
- Answering general questions from the public
- Providing forms and directing the public to the proper departments for assistance
- Reviewing court papers
- Collecting and reporting statistical information
- Acting as a liaison to statewide Help Center administration

- Although the position is currently located at a specific court, the appointee may be subject to reassignment within the same title within the Unified Court System
