Job Title: General Attorney (Employment Law)
Job Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will provide legal advice and support to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities and programs in the area of Federal sector employment law. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing legal advice, training, and support on federal employment law practices, such as adverse actions, disciplinary matters, performance issues, prohibited personnel practices, reasonable accommodation, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) issues, and other related matters.
- Serving as agency counsel in proceedings before administrative and judicial forums, including arbitration, the . Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the . Merit Systems Protection Board, the Office of Special Counsel, and the . Federal Courts.
Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must be a graduate of an American Bar Association accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree.
- Bar Membership: Candidates must be active members in good standing of the bar of a . state, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- The position requires superior legal research and writing skills, demonstrated experience advising agency operational components effectively, a proven track record of managing complex legal matters, and strong advocacy skills.
- Prior experience in labor or employment law, including practice before administrative and judicial forums, is preferred.
- Applicants should possess characteristics such as integrity, judgment, organizational skills, communication skills, reliability, perseverance, decisiveness, initiative, professionalism, the ability to function independently and as part of a team, interpersonal relationship skills, and outstanding written and oral advocacy skills.
Salary Information:
- The salary range for this position is $112,234 - $172,414 per year.
- Pay scale & grade: GS 13 - 14.
- The position has promotion potential to the GS-15 level.
Additional Information:
- Organizational Location: This position is situated in the Office of Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), within the Department of Homeland Security.
- Employment type is permanent, with a full-time work schedule.
- The position falls under the Excepted Service and is not a bargaining position.
- Applicants must be . citizens and successfully pass a background investigation and drug screen for federal employment.
- The role requires a Secret security clearance and is classified as Critical-Sensitive (CS)/High Risk.
