**Job Title: Fall Internship Program - Civil Division**
**Job Responsibilities:**
The internship program within the Civil Division of the organization offers law students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in a Texas prosecutor's office. Interns will engage in various activities, including:
- Gaining real courtroom experience in a hands-on setting.
- Observing and participating in motion practice, contested hearings, and trials.
- Assisting with case review, investigation, and trial preparation.
- Communicating with witnesses and crime victims about ongoing cases.
These tasks are designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of how legal services are delivered to the public on the front line, enhancing their practical legal skills and knowledge.
**Education and Experience Information:**
The internship is specifically targeted at law students who are in their 2L (second year) or 3L (third year) of law school, or who are law school post-graduates. A preference is given to students who are eligible for a Temporary Trial Card through the Texas Bar Association. Eligibility for this card is an advantage as it allows interns to participate more fully in legal proceedings under supervision.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
- Enrollment in the 2L or 3L year of law school or status as a law school post-graduate.
- Eligibility for a Temporary Trial Card is preferred.
- Successful completion of a background check and adherence to other security measures.
**Application Deadlines:**
The organization has established two induction periods for interns:
- Summer Internship (May - August): Application deadline is April 30th.
- Fall Internship (August - November): Application deadline is July 15th.
Applications are considered on a case-by-case basis if an applicant is unable to intern during these specified periods due to special circumstances.
**Salary Information:**
The internship is unpaid. However, if the internship is being completed for school credit, the organization will collaborate with the intern's law school to meet academic requirements.
**Additional Information:**
Interns are required to undergo a background investigation, and the provision of complete and accurate information is essential for consideration. Any falsification or omission of required information may result in termination from the internship program.
Interns will have the opportunity to select their preferred assignment within the Adult Criminal Division, Juvenile Criminal Division, Family Justice Division (TDFPS/CPS & Protective Orders), or Civil Division, based on their interests and career goals.
This internship provides a valuable opportunity for law students to immerse themselves in the legal processes of a public prosecutor’s office, offering a practical learning experience that complements their academic studies.
