Job Title: Attorney II - Rules and Projects Unit
Salary: $12,993-$15,590 per month
Experience: Three (3) years of relevant post-bar legal experience as a practicing attorney

Location: San Francisco or Sacramento

Responsibilities:
- Serve as legal counsel to Judicial Council advisory bodies and analyze legal issues related to civil and appellate court administration, practice, and procedure
- Provide legal subject matter expertise on the development and drafting of rules, forms, standards, and jury instructions in civil and appellate court areas
- Conduct legal research and analysis and provide written and oral legal advice to courts and other Judicial Council offices
- Analyze pending legislation related to civil and appellate court issues
- Assist in developing and implementing judicial branch policies and procedures
- Support Judicial Council communication with legislative and executive branches, justice partners, and stakeholders
- Assist the Legal Services' Legal Opinion Unit in providing legal advice to the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal, superior courts, and other Judicial Council bodies and staff
- Perform other legal duties and responsibilities as needed
- Assist with projects or matters in areas of expertise, such as litigation, employment, transactions, legal opinions, public access, data governance, or real estate
Qualifications:
- Juris doctor and three (3) years of relevant post-bar legal experience as a practicing attorney
- Admission to the State Bar of California prior to hire
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong legal research and analytical skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands and deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships
- Experience in the public sector and providing staff support for a committee or governmental body
- Experience drafting rules, legal forms, standards, jury instructions, or legislation
- Knowledge of or experience with appellate or civil court administration, practice, and procedure, protective orders, jury instructions, court technology, unlawful detainers, and water, environmental, and climate change law
Other Information:
- Work experience as a law clerk to a federal or state judge after passing the state bar exam but before formal bar admission will be considered qualifying experience
- Verification of employment eligibility or authorization to work in the United States will be required if selected for hire
