Job Title: Law Clerk 2025 - 2026

Job Responsibilities:
Law clerks in the **Members Only** play a crucial role in the judicial process, working closely with justices and judges across various courts. Responsibilities vary depending on the court division:

1. Supreme Court: Law clerks assist justices with complex cases, conducting legal research, preparing written memoranda, and aiding in opinion drafting.
2. Appellate Division: Clerks conduct research, analyze legal data, prepare legal memoranda, and proofread published opinions. They handle emergent applications and assist judges with additional research projects.
3. Superior Court Assignment Judges: Clerks learn court administration, assist with emergent motions, and conduct research.
4. Trial Courts (Civil, Criminal, Family): Clerks observe judicial proceedings, attend attorney conferences, receive mediation training, mediate small claims, and summarize information for judges.
5. Tax Court: Similar to Appellate and trial courts, but without mediation duties. Clerks handle motions, conduct legal research, draft case management orders, and manage the motion calendar.
6. Family Division: Clerks conduct legal research, assist in remote proceedings, draft opinions, and manage adjournment requests. They handle a variety of docket types including adoption, juvenile delinquency, and domestic violence cases.
7. Civil Division: Clerks prepare bench memoranda, draft legal orders, manage the motion calendar, and assist with drafting opinions. They gain exposure to a wide range of civil cases.
8. Criminal Division: Clerks conduct legal research, assist in drafting jury instructions and legal opinions, manage the motion calendar, and perform case management functions.
9. General Equity: Clerks conduct legal research, prepare bench memoranda, draft orders, and assist in processing emergent temporary restraining orders.

Education and Experience Information:
Applicants must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of their appointment. The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those who have graduated within the last four years. Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential. It is beneficial to have completed a course in mediation prior to the clerkship. All trial court law clerks who will serve as mediators must complete the Judiciary-sponsored 12-hour mediation training or its equivalent.

Salary Information:
Salaries for the 2025-2026 Court Term are to be determined based on funding availability. For the 2024-2025 Court Term, the salaries are as follows:
- Supreme Court: $76,400
- Supreme Court Appellate Division: $69,750
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $63,950
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $63,950
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil and Criminal): $58,900
- Superior Court Chancery Division (Family): $58,900
- Tax Court: $58,900

- Law clerks may hold outside employment with prior approval in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Judiciary Employees.
