Title: 711 Clerkship - Paid
Job Responsibilities:
The 711 Clerk will be engaged in a variety of legal tasks and responsibilities throughout their clerkship. They will be expected to conduct thorough legal research and prepare detailed memos on pending legal issues. Furthermore, they will partner with counsel regarding case management and procedural requirements, which includes preparation of motions, answers, and other legal filings as needed. A significant part of their role involves assisting with courtroom proceedings, which includes preparing for daily court calls and breaking down the court call at the end of the day.
The 711 Clerk will also assist with the preparation of discovery, which involves reviewing and organizing video, audio, and document evidence. They will have the opportunity to interview witnesses and law enforcement, and assist with motions and trials as required. Additionally, the role involves the critical task of notifying witnesses as part of the legal process.
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants for the 711 Clerkship must be rising 3L law students at an ABA-approved law school or qualify for a 711 license if they are in an alternative law school program. It is essential for applicants to be in good standing with their law school, maintaining a GPA of or above, and they should not be on any type of academic probation. Prior to the start of the clerkship, candidates must have or be able to obtain a 711 license. Experience with Moot Court and/or Mock Trial is preferred, which can provide a competitive edge in the selection process.
Salary Information:
The 711 Clerkship is a paid position, classified as Non-Union/Hourly. It is a full-time role, requiring 32-40 hours of work per week. The pay rate for this position is set at $21 per hour. This offers rising 3L law students a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on legal experience while being compensated for their contributions.

The opportunity is highly competitive due to the hands-on, challenging, and relevant work experience it offers. The clerkship is based within the department, where participants will be paired with an Assistant State’s Attorney who will guide and mentor them through the clerkship.

For those not selected for the paid internship, the unpaid internship program is available as an alternative for gaining valuable experience.
Physical Requirements:
The position involves sedentary work, which typically includes lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. While the job is primarily sitting-based, a certain amount of walking and standing is necessary to carry out job duties effectively.
