Job Title: Associate Court Attorney JG - 30

Job Responsibilities:
Associate Court Attorneys are tasked with a variety of responsibilities that require a deep understanding of legal principles and the ability to apply them in complex situations. Their primary duties include:

- Researching and analyzing complex legal issues and questions.
- Supervising attorneys and support staff located in one or more courts across a county, judicial district, or department.
- Serving in a confidential capacity under the supervision of judges or groups of judges in various courts such as the Supreme Court, County Court, Surrogate's Court, the Court of Claims, Family Court, District Court, the Criminal Court and Civil Court of the City of New York, and City Courts with two or more full-time judges.
- Conferencing cases with attorneys and pro se litigants and assisting parties in reaching a settlement.
- Conducting legal research and conferring with and advising the judge on legal issues.
- Drafting orders and legal opinions to be reviewed by the court.
- Assisting the judge during bench and jury trials, including preparing jury charges and instructions and conferencing proposed jury charges with attorneys.
- Drafting responses and/or responding to inquiries.
- Performing general clerical and office duties.

Education and Experience Information:
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- Five (5) years of relevant legal experience, which may include up to 18 months of pre-admission experience.

Salary Information:
- Base Salary: $123,228
- Additional Location Pay: $4,920

General Information:
The position is classified as non-competitive/confidential and is assigned to Hon. Brenda Rivera, Civil Court Judge located in Bronx County Civil Court. While the position is currently available in a specific location, the appointee may be subject to reassignment to any position in the same title within the promotion unit, depending on the needs of the Unified Court System. The announcement is open to fill any current or future vacancies within the next six (6) months.
