The **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is currently seeking a highly qualified Municipal Attorney II to join their Civil Law Division. This is an executive position that serves at the pleasure of the Mayor and offers a competitive salary range of $93, - $164, annually. The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience as a Municipal Attorney I with the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. or equivalent elsewhere, as well as a valid State of Alaska driver's license and satisfactory driving record. This position also requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within 30 days of hire.
The Municipal Attorney II will be responsible for providing a full range of legal services on requests from the Mayor, Manager, Chief Executive Officers, and Municipal Assembly. This includes conducting civil litigation on behalf of the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. in state and federal courts, at the trial level and on appeal. The attorney filling this position should be a seasoned litigator with significant experience in civil litigation, including experience with crafting overall litigation strategy, preparing dispositive motions, presenting oral argument, and conducting trials.
In addition to litigating cases assigned to them, the Municipal Attorney II will also provide pre-litigation advice, advice regarding settlement, and review of adverse decisions. They may also be called upon to provide advice outside of litigation in their particular areas of expertise. This position will also involve consulting with and providing backup for other litigating attorneys in the office, as well as receiving consultation and backup from other attorneys as needed. Over time, the Municipal Attorney II may also take on additional responsibilities such as mentoring, training, and eventually supervising less experienced litigators.
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 5 years of civil litigation experience in both state and federal court, with a strong track record of success. They should also possess significant autonomy and excellent judgment, requiring minimal day-to-day direction.
