Introduction
Welcome to the Loudoun County Government job posting for a Senior Deputy County Attorney! We are excited to have you consider joining our team and contributing to our community. In this role, you will have the opportunity to focus on land use, zoning, and comprehensive planning and development matters. Your legal expertise and advice will be crucial in guiding County staff, the Board of Supervisors, and other advisory boards and commissions in navigating the complex world of land development applications and ordinances. You may also have the opportunity to represent the County in legal proceedings related to land use.
Job Summary
The Senior Deputy County Attorney will primarily be responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on land use, zoning, and comprehensive planning and development matters. This includes reviewing and processing land development applications, interpreting and enforcing land development ordinances, and representing the County in litigation and appeals related to land use. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, such as reviewing subdivision site plans, negotiating and drafting agreements, and providing guidance on proposed ordinance amendments. Additionally, this role may involve supervising other attorneys and paralegals, attending evening meetings, and communicating with clients and third parties. Strong legal skills, including analysis, advocacy, problem-solving, time management, and organization, are essential for success in this position. Previous experience in Virginia local government law or zoning and land development law is preferred.
Salary Information
The salary for this position will depend on your qualifications and experience. The salary range for the Senior Deputy classification is $116,,. If you are hired at a different classification level, your salary range will be as follows:
- Deputy: $104,,
- Senior Assistant: $96,,
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Virginia State Bar. The classification level at which you are hired will depend on your experience and qualifications. The minimum requirements for each classification level are as follows:
- Senior Deputy: at least six (6) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney, including at least four (4) years of experience in local government or a specific relevant practice area, and one (1) year of supervisory experience
- Deputy: at least five (5) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney, including at least three (3) years of experience in local government or a specific relevant practice area
- Senior Assistant: at least three (3) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney, including at least two (2) years of experience in local government or a specific relevant practice area
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
As a Senior Deputy County Attorney, you will be expected to have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Virginia State Bar. Additionally, you must pass pre-employment criminal and credit background checks.
