# Assistant Public Defender - **Members Only**

The **Members Only** Public Defender’s Office is currently looking to fill openings for Assistant Public Defenders. This position is responsible for providing legal representation to indigent persons in criminal courts, County Court, Family Court, Surrogate’s Court, Supreme Court, state Appellate Courts and Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) matters.

## Qualifications

-
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience in the practice of criminal law and/or in Family Court
- NYS License to practice law
- Must be a resident of **Members Only** at time of appointment

## Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $72,969, with a competitive benefit package including health insurance, life insurance and NYS retirement. Candidates may also be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Salary is negotiable and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
