Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join its team in Hopewell Junction, New York, serving clients across the Hudson Valley region. This expanding firm offers a collaborative environment where attorneys provide comprehensive legal counsel and representation to public-sector clients, including school districts, higher education institutions, public libraries, municipalities, and private employers. Duties:
- Deliver legal advice and guidance across areas such as:
- Labor and employment matters
- Special education law
- Discrimination, harassment, and bullying cases
- Title IX compliance and investigations
- Student and employee discipline
- Freedom of Information Law requests
- Public contracting and construction projects
- Represent clients in administrative hearings and litigation.
- Conduct client training on legal compliance and policy issues.
- Participate in collective bargaining and union negotiations.
- Engage directly with clients to provide proactive legal counsel.
- Travel within the Hudson Valley region for client meetings (daytime travel only – no overnight stays required).
Requirements:
- 1 to 5+ years of relevant legal experience.
- Previous work in education law, municipal law, labor and employment law, or related fields is advantageous.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex legal information clearly to clients and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and responsiveness.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Admitted to practice law in the State of New York and good standing.
Skills:
- Legal research and analysis using primary and secondary sources.
- Drafting comprehensive legal documents, including opinions, contracts, and pleadings.
- Effective public speaking and presentation skills for client training.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain client relationships.
- Familiarity with public sector and education-related legal issues is a plus.
