Job Overview:
A law firm based in Hastings, MI, is seeking a skilled Tax Litigation Attorney with at least five years of experience in tax court litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil tax controversy, experience in refund litigation matters, and a history of working with prominent government agencies such as the IRS Chief of Counsel, the . Attorney’s Office, or the DOJ Tax Division. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional business development skills, including the potential for a portable book of business and the ability to manage cases effectively while maintaining high client service standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in tax court and handle complex tax litigation matters.
- Manage civil tax controversy cases, including refund litigation.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, including potential business development and management of a portable business book.
- Supervise client interactions and case management to ensure effective case handling.
- Coordinate with government agencies, such as the IRS Chief of Counsel, the . Attorney’s Office, and the DOJ Tax Division, as required.
- Juggle multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining high responsiveness.
- Provide exceptional customer/client service and attention to detail throughout all phases of litigation.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax court litigation and civil tax controversy.
- Experience with refund litigation matters.
- Background with the IRS Chief of Counsel, . Attorney’s Office, and DOJ Tax Division preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a business, including a portable business book with growth potential.
- Proven ability to manage cases, supervise client contact, and lead cases effectively.
- Capacity to handle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high responsiveness.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
