Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to provide high-quality legal services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses. The attorney will collaborate with senior legal professionals, assisting with estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters. The ideal candidate will possess experience in complex estate and trust issues, with a commitment to client service and legal excellence.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel to clients on matters related to estate planning, trust administration, and probate
  • Draft, review, and finalize key estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives
  • Advise clients on strategies for minimizing estate taxes and asset protection
  • Assist in the administration of estates and trusts, including preparing and filing necessary legal documents, managing asset distribution, and resolving disputes
  • Conduct legal research to stay informed of developments in estate planning, tax law, and probate law
  • Work alongside clients’ financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to create comprehensive estate plans
  • Represent clients in probate and trust administration court proceedings when needed
  • Build and maintain strong, ongoing relationships with clients through effective communication

Requirements

  • 4-6+ years of experience as a Trusts and Estates Attorney
  • Admission to the New York Bar (or ability to waive in) required; additional admissions to Connecticut and/or Massachusetts Bar a plus
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Proven experience in drafting estate planning documents, including trusts, as well as handling complex estate and trust administration
  • Experience with estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns
  • Familiarity with probate court proceedings involving fiduciaries and beneficiaries
  • Exceptional written communication skills are essential
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues
  • High level of organizational ability to prioritize tasks and manage a heavy workload
  • Ability to absorb and apply new information quickly
  • Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude

Education

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar (or ability to waive in)
  • Additional state bar admissions (CT/MA) are advantageous
