Job Title: Defense Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Location: New York City, NY

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm seeks an experienced Defense Litigation Associate Attorney to join their Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team. This position will primarily focus on New York State Labor Law and personal injury litigation. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues across multiple offices, handling complex litigation matters and working closely with local counsel across the country.

Duties:

  • Research and analyze issues related to Labor Law and personal injury litigation, working alongside senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Take and defend depositions, managing the discovery process, including e-discovery.
  • Draft legal memoranda, reports, pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery demands and responses, and other legal documents.
  • Participate in trial and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) preparation and planning.
  • Represent clients at courtroom conferences and motion hearings.
  • Oversee day-to-day management of Labor Law and personal injury cases under supervision.
  • Maintain a minimum of 1900 billable hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in general liability litigation.
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar is preferred (or the ability to waive into NJ).
  • Significant experience with NYS courts is required; federal court experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability in deposition handling, motion practice, and e-discovery.
  • Experience with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing tools for remote depositions, court conferences, and meetings.
  • Willingness to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel when necessary.
  • Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work effectively, demonstrating excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to quickly absorb and process new information.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to New York State Bar (required).
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Jersey Bar (preferred).

Skills:

  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in e-discovery and deposition processes.
  • Familiarity with video conferencing tools for legal proceedings.
