# First Assistant Public Defender - **Members Only**

**Members Only** has an immediate opening for a first assistant public defender to join the Public Defender's Office. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Public Defender in providing counsel and representation to indigent persons in criminal courts, County Court, Family Court, Surrogate’s Court, Supreme Court, state Appellate Courts and Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA) matters. They will also be responsible for managing the professional staff at the office.

## Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates must have the following qualifications and requirements:
* Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited law school
* Four (4) years of experience in the practice of criminal law and/or in Family Court
* NYS License to practice law
* Must be a resident of **Members Only** at time of appointment

## Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for this position is $93,817 plus a competitive benefit package including:
* Health insurance
* Life insurance
* NYS retirement

Candidates may be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, and salary is negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications.
