What does a Legal Office Assistant do?


Legal Office Assistants perform a variety of technical legal work ranging from basic assignments to expert legal support responsibilities. They provide general and complex support functions that may include:

Receive service of legal documents and routes to the appropriate party;
Perform delivery/messenger services such as serving and filing legal documents and obtaining signatures in order to meet critical deadlines;
Process and route incoming and outgoing mail and other special deliveries distinguishing between legal and general correspondence/documents;
Receive and screen clients and the public by phone and in person; assist with answers to basic or routine questions; directs them to the appropriate resources;
Process basic or routine legal documents and general correspondence for cases and claims;
Number and assemble legal documents, evidence, exhibits and other materials as directed;
Prepare and process vendor, travel or expense vouchers and expert agreements in conformance with agency-established coding system and fiscal procedures; makes travel arrangements and vehicle reservations; schedules vehicles for maintenance;
Maintain inventory and track supplies following office protocols and procedures; and
Copy and/or print information from hearing tapes, CDs or flash drives.


Salary Information.
In addition to the salary listed in this recruitment announcement, Legal Office Assistant positions located in King County receive an additional 5% King County location pay stipend.



QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of six months of experience in a legal office environment.



Option 2: One year of legal office experience.



Option 3: A combination of two years of college education and/or relevant experience.



Option 4: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.
