Job Overview:
A law firm based in Tampa, FL, is seeking a highly qualified New Business Attorney to join its team. This role involves advising on conflict issues, supporting the global implementation of the concierge model, and managing new business reviews with a focus on conflict clearance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate or finance law, a firm grasp of conflict clearance protocols, and excellent communication and mentoring skills.
Duties:
- Advise fee earners on conflict issues and relevant bar rules.
- Support the global rollout of the concierge model for total conflict clearance for complex and straightforward matters.
- Liaise with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and Partners to resolve complex technical or commercial conflicts.
- Review new business matters on an expedited basis to determine acceptability.
- Communicate conflict concerns to partners, including the need for waivers, ethical screens, or special approvals.
- Understand and apply engagement letters, waiver language, outside counsel guidelines, and internal procedures.
- Provide support in developing and delivering conflict training materials and programs.
- Mentor junior team members, act as an escalation point, and guide them through the conflict clearance process.
- Conduct quality control checks on junior team members’ conflicts tasks and provide feedback for improvement.
- Support new lateral Partners with conflict clearances, matter reviews, and drafting engagement letters and waivers.
- Act as a subject matter expert in various areas of law, offering guidance to Senior and Junior Analysts.
- Provide high-level department coverage for urgent requests on weekends, holidays, and after-hours.
Requirements:
- Must be Florida barred, active, and in good standing.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience as a professional attorney, ideally in corporate or finance law; conflicts attorney experience is a plus.
- Experience at or currently employed at a reasonably-sized law firm.
- International experience is a plus.
- Strong academic record and intellectual curiosity with creative thinking skills.
- Ability to see the big picture and demonstrate outstanding communication skills.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
- Client service focus, team player mentality, and decisive judgment.
- Proactive, resourceful, and takes initiative.
- Fluency in English.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Admitted to practice law in Florida (must be active and in good standing).
Skills:
- Deep understanding of conflict clearance protocols in corporate practice areas, including private equity, capital markets, bank finance, mergers & acquisitions, and restructuring & insolvency.
- Ability to communicate complex conflict issues clearly and confidentially.
- Proficiency in mentoring and providing feedback to junior team members.
- Capability to handle high-pressure situations and urgent requests effectively.
