Staff Attorney - Consumer & Administrative Law - Full Time - Baltimore County, Towson, MD Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) is seeking a full-time staff attorney to join their Baltimore County office in Towson, MD. This position offers a salary range of $74, to $115, annually and provides life-changing civil legal assistance to eligible residents in every part of the state. MLA has been providing high-quality legal services to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities since 1911, helping them overcome challenges and achieve stability and independence. JOB SUMMARY The staff attorney will handle a wide range of legal advocacy for low-income individuals, with a focus on consumer and administrative law cases. This includes conducting intakes, representing clients in various courts and administrative agencies, and providing outreach and education to key stakeholders and MLA's client population. The staff attorney will also collaborate with community organizations and assist in clinics as needed. Participation in trainings, task forces, and committees is expected, and the attorney may also be assigned duties in other legal practice areas. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Screen clients for eligibility and make appropriate referrals - Conduct interviews and investigations with clients - Conduct legal research and analysis - Advise clients and counsel them on their options - Draft pleadings and other legal documents - Develop case strategy and represent clients in negotiations, hearings, trials, and appeals - Attend trainings and continue professional development - Perform other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: - Juris Doctorate (.) degree from an accredited law school - Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland or eligible for admission - Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence - Proficiency in computer and web-based applications - Excellent research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills - Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment - Ability to provide quality legal advocacy for low-income, diverse clients - Ability to travel locally and regionally as needed WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed in an office setting with some community-based work. Hybrid and remote work arrangements are available. BENEFITS: Staff attorneys will be paid according to MLA's current salary scale, which is subject to annual revision through collective bargaining. Salary placement is based on years of experience, with the current range being $74, to $115,. In addition, MLA offers a generous benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions, paid time off, sick leave, paid holidays, and a standard 35-hour work week.
