Job Overview:

A law firm in Houston, TX is seeking a skilled attorney to join its Municipal and Local Government practice group. This role involves providing comprehensive legal services to municipal government clients, including acting as general counsel, conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and attending client meetings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in municipal law, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to build effective client relationships.

Duties:

• Conduct legal research and analyze municipal laws, contracts, and real estate documents to develop effective strategies.
• Offer legal advice to municipal staff, elected officials, and appointed boards.
• Draft and review legal documents, including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, deeds, easements, and policies.
• Attend City Council meetings, client board sessions, and commission meetings as needed.
• Participate in marketing and networking activities to expand professional opportunities.

Requirements:

• Licensure: Active license to practice law in Texas and good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• Experience: 3-10 years of legal experience in municipal law or related practice at a law firm or governmental agency.
• Expertise: Knowledge of municipal law, including the Texas Open Meetings Act, land use regulations, and local government administrative practices.

Education:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.

Skills:

• Proficiency in legal research, drafting, and negotiation.
• Familiarity with local government laws and regulations.
• Strong communication skills for effective client and stakeholder interaction.
• Competence in using legal case management software and MS Office tools.
