Job Overview:

A law firm in Milwaukee, WI, seeks a highly skilled and experienced General Liability Attorney to join their legal team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in general liability defense work and will be responsible for representing the interests of employers or insurers in various legal proceedings. This position requires an in-depth understanding of legal principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.

Duties:

  • Gather medical evidence and medical records.
  • Take depositions of claimants, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
  • Conduct discovery processes.
  • Perform comprehensive legal research.
  • Stay current with developments in the law.
  • Draft pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
  • Represent the employer's or insurer's interests at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.
  • Communicate with claims representatives.
  • Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases, alerting management to concerns.
  • Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
  • Manage costs to reduce liability.
  • Compile and submit reports required by company management.
  • Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
  • Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Proven track record of 3+ years of progressive experience in general liability defense work; workers’ compensation defense experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of legal principles and practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques and legal terminology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word; experience with Perfect Law legal software preferred.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree.
  • Proof of admission to the Wisconsin Bar.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Wisconsin Bar.
