Job Description: As a Patent Prosecution Paralegal, you will play a critical role in coordinating and supporting all phases of . patent prosecution matters. This includes preparing and filing patent applications and prosecution documents, conducting legal research and complex factual investigations, and managing client portfolios. You will also communicate with clients, government agencies, and foreign agents regularly to collect and assemble information and maintain a docket to track deadlines and follow up with appropriate parties. Essential Functions: - Prepare and file patent and design applications and prosecution documents via the electronic filing systems of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). - Communicate with clients, government agencies, foreign agents, and other parties to collect and assemble information and communicate findings. - Manage a docket and track deadlines, as well as monitor and follow up with appropriate parties. - Conduct legal research and complex factual investigations. - Maintain current knowledge of . and PCT rules related to patent prosecution practice. - Assist with client transfers and review of chain of title. Specific Skills Required: - Thorough knowledge of . and PCT patent prosecution processes, procedures, databases, and filing systems. - Familiarity with international procedures and corresponding with foreign associates. - Superb organizational, analytical, and communication skills. - Ability to establish effective working relationships with lawyers, clients, and other professionals. - Ability to handle multiple assignments and work well under pressure. - Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Acrobat, and Outlook. Education and Experience: - 5+ years of recent experience as a patent prosecution secretary or paralegal in a law firm or in-house legal department. - Paralegal certificate or bachelor's degree preferred.
