Job Overview:
A national law firm is seeking an experienced Special Counsel for a virtual office role specializing in labor and employment law. This remote position is ideal for attorneys with over seven years of experience who are looking for a full-cycle litigation practice with increased flexibility. The primary responsibilities include handling administrative charges, attorney demand letters, and employment litigation for clients, including those with Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI). This role will involve supervising other attorneys, developing case strategies, conducting depositions, and representing clients at hearings, conferences, and trials. The position provides the opportunity for significant legal work without the pressure of business development demands.

Location:

Duties:

  • Handle administrative charges, attorney demand letters, and employment litigation.
  • Represent clients at hearings, conferences, and trials.
  • Develop case strategies and supervise other attorneys.
  • Draft and review legal work product.
  • Conduct depositions and manage litigation processes.
  • Collaborate with partners and a team of attorneys.
  • Work with a team of paralegals and a shared secretarial pool within a virtual office.
  • Potential involvement in class actions and PAGA cases, in addition to single-plaintiff litigation.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in employment law and litigation.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • Strong experience handling employment law matters, including administrative charges and demand letters.
  • Experience with single-plaintiff litigation and EPLI matters.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teams in a virtual office.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in the relevant state (preferably with California bar admission).

Skills:

  • Expertise in labor and employment law, including litigation and administrative charges.
  • Strong legal writing and drafting skills.
  • Excellent communication and deposition skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute litigation strategies.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a virtual office environment.
