They are dedicated to preserving the basic human needs and rights of their clients and ensuring equal access to justice for all. They are currently seeking a full-time Guardianship staff attorney with 1-10 years of experience to join their team in Baltimore, MD. The staff attorney's responsibilities will include representing indigent adults involved in Petitions for Guardianship and the Adult Public Guardianship Review Board (APGRB) in various Circuit Courts, attending required training for the APS practice, and participating in outreach activities and clinics. They will also be expected to attend court meetings, task forces, and other internal committees as assigned. Other duties may include: - Conducting interviews and investigations with clients - Providing legal advice and counsel - Drafting pleadings and legal documents - Representing clients in negotiations, hearings, trials, and appeals - Maintaining case records in the LegalServer case management system - Continuing professional development through trainings and programs Qualifications for this position include a Juris Doctorate (.) degree from an accredited law school, admission to practice in the State of Maryland or eligibility for admission, and knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, and evidence rules. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent computer skills and have the ability to handle a high workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. They must also be able to travel locally and regionally in Maryland as needed. The work environment for this position is typically in an office setting with some work being performed in community settings. MLA offers a generous benefits package for their staff, including health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer contributions, paid time off, sick leave, and more. They are also eligible to apply for the Maryland Janet L. Hoffman Loan Assistance Repayment Program (LARP). The salary for this position will be determined based on MLA's current salary scale, which is subject to revision annually through collective bargaining negotiations. The current salary range for the staff attorney classification is $74, - $115,. References will be required at the time of the final interview and no phone calls will be accepted.
