Job Summary: The Sixth Judicial Circuit is seeking a highly responsible and professional Trial Court Staff Attorney to conduct legal research at the circuit court level, with a focus on criminal law. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for pre-trial and trial matters, as well as post-conviction matters, and will work closely with judges and court staff. This position may be partially remote, but regular in-person attendance is required.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and analysis primarily at the circuit court level
- Draft court orders and memoranda of law
- Advise judges on legal research and issues
- Independently evaluate incoming post-conviction motions and take appropriate action
- Regularly communicate with judges and court staff
- Work under the supervision of the senior staff attorney, criminal division
- Receive assignments from the Supervising Senior Staff Attorney or Court Counsel
- Ensure timely addressing of post-conviction motions
- Perform word processing tasks
Qualifications:
