Summary: Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney with experience in Housing and Consumer Law to join their team in Baltimore, MD. The salary range for this position is $74, to $115, annually. MLA provides high-quality legal services to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities, helping them overcome challenges and achieve stability and independence. The Staff Attorney will handle housing and consumer-related legal matters, from initial intake to representation in court. They will also work with other attorneys, law graduates, and legal assistants on cases and projects. The ideal candidate will be admitted to practice in Maryland or another jurisdiction and have Spanish language proficiency. Job Title: Staff Attorney (Housing and Consumer Law) Location: Baltimore, MD Salary Range: $74, - $115, Annually Experience Level: Entry to Mid-Level Employment Type: Full-Time Organization: Maryland Legal Aid H1: Join Our Team as a Staff Attorney in Housing and Consumer Law H2: Make a Difference in the Lives of Low-Income Marylanders Key Responsibilities: Screen clients for case acceptance and make referrals, as appropriate. Represent and defend clients in Baltimore City District and Circuit Court and the Federal Bankruptcy Court. Conduct preliminary and subsequent interviews with clients. Conduct factual investigation and analysis as well as legal research. Advise clients of results of investigation and research and counsel clients regarding their options. Draft pleadings and develop case theory and strategy for the representation of clients. Prepare cases and represent clients during negotiations and in hearings, trials, and appeals. Maintain case records for clients in the Legal Server case management system. Continue professional development and education through attendance at trainings and other programs sponsored by MLA. Qualifications: Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland or admitted in another jurisdiction and eligible for admission in the State of Maryland. Out-of-state attorneys must be able and available to take the next scheduled bar exam following the date of employment. Federally barred attorneys are desirable. Spanish language proficiency is desirable. Benefits: Competitive salary based on experience and years of practice.
