Senior Social Worker, Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative - Full-Time, Exempt Position in Newark, NJ The American Friends Service Committee is seeking a Senior Social Worker to join our Immigrant Rights Program and provide intensive case management for clients of the Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative. This position will work closely with legal staff and provide support for clients facing removal in New Jersey. The Senior Social Worker will also have the opportunity to mentor social work colleagues and contribute to the practice of others. Key responsibilities include conducting initial intake and needs assessments, providing safety planning and risk assessment, and offering psychoeducation and supportive counseling to clients. The Senior Social Worker will also oversee and review comprehensive release plans for clients in detention and identify and maintain a resource database for staff and partners. A Master's degree in social work and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a licensed social worker in New Jersey are required for this position. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to working with and providing services in diverse and multicultural settings, as well as familiarity with immigration law and policy. Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
