Paralegal - Allegheny County: Organizational Role in Child Welfare System

The role of a paralegal is crucial in the child welfare system, especially in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. As a paralegal for Voce, you will have the opportunity to work with a nationally recognized agency that is dedicated to creating positive and lasting change in the lives of children. You will use your voice to advocate for the rights of children and help them find safe and permanent homes. Join our team and make a difference in the lives of children in need.

About Voce

Voce was founded in 1999 with a mission to provide children with safe, nurturing, and permanent homes. We are a pioneer in new approaches to achieving permanency for children in foster care and we employ specialized knowledge and a continuum of services to expedite adoptions and keep families together. We believe that every child deserves to belong and be empowered to thrive.

Our agency is also a partner with Diakon in co-administering the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network (SWAN) program for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. This partnership allows us to provide even more support and resources to children and families in need.

Paralegal Role in SWAN Legal Services Initiative

As a paralegal for Voce, you will be a part of the SWAN Legal Services Initiative (LSI) program. This program was created to address barriers within the legal process that delay permanency for children in the child welfare system. LSI paralegals work out of every county's children and youth office, providing support and assistance to counties in all aspects of the legal process to ensure that children are placed in safe and permanent homes.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by drafting legal documents for solicitor review, participating in court hearings and conferences, and assisting with witness preparation. You will also facilitate and/or train on approved LSI training topics, support county best practices, and conduct diligent searches to locate potential permanency resources for children in need.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have a general knowledge or work experience in the legal or child welfare field. An Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree, or paralegal certificate is preferred, but a minimum of 5 years of related experience will also be considered. We are looking for motivated professionals with strong organizational and time management skills who can thrive in a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
