As an intern at DCF, you will have the chance to work in various offices and gain valuable experience in your chosen field.

About DCF

DCF is a state agency responsible for protecting the well-being of children and families in New Jersey. Our Student Intern Program offers college students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social work, psychology, information systems, business management, and more. We are committed to providing a supportive and educational environment for our interns, and we welcome students from all backgrounds to apply.

Qualifications

To be considered for an internship at DCF, you must be a current college student. Please note that certain factors, such as a criminal record or driving violations, may disqualify you from consideration. We encourage all interested applicants to apply early, as the application process can take up to two months.

Office: Legal Affairs

As an intern in the Office of Legal and Legislative Affairs, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of tasks and projects. We are looking for interns with excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate professionally with various agencies. Legal research and summarization of court decisions will be a major part of your internship, and you will also have the chance to work closely with two specific units within the office.

The Administrative Hearings Unit (AHU) is responsible for processing appeals related to abuse/neglect findings, licensing actions, and more. As an intern, you will assist with reviewing cases and writing final agency decisions. You will also have the opportunity to work with the immigration unit, which helps DCF staff and clients with immigration issues.
