Staff Attorney - Pro Bono & Community Partnerships: Legal Aid Chicago Seeks Experienced Attorney for Community Legal Clinics Salary: Starting at $63,500, with potential increase based on experience Overview Legal Aid Chicago, a non-profit organization providing free civil legal assistance to individuals living in poverty in metropolitan Chicago, is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to primarily work with their community legal clinics and virtual legal clinics. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced attorney to support and advance Legal Aid Chicago's mission of ensuring quality civil legal representation for all individuals, regardless of their income. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice and experience working with underrepresented communities. Responsibilities - Attend and manage four community legal clinics in neighborhoods around Chicago, as well as virtual legal clinics - Maintain, strengthen, and develop relationships with law firm and corporate partners to ensure smooth operations of the clinics and sufficient volunteer participation - Provide legal advice, brief legal services, perform legal research, and litigate a limited number of cases as co-counsel to volunteer attorneys - Collaborate on other volunteer projects within the Pro Bono & Community Partnerships Practice Group and with Legal Aid Chicago's other Practice and Work Groups - Track data related to pro bono work and assist with related reporting - Design and deliver effective training to pro bono partners - Maintain case files and timekeeping in electronic case management system - Participate in activities related to poverty law, including publication, legislative and administrative advocacy, media relations, and fundraising - Assist with grant reporting, as needed - Other duties as assigned Requirements - . degree and licensed to practice law in Illinois or able to waive into the Illinois bar - Experience in housing law, family law, consumer law, and public benefits preferred - Availability during evening hours on days when community clinics are held - Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle or reliable transportation for travel to community locations - Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and client counseling skills - Experience coordinating volunteers and organizing and implementing trainings preferred - Commitment to and experience working with underrepresented communities - Strong client counseling skills and ability to interact with clients confidently Benefits - Bilingual Staff Attorneys eligible for additional stipend - Medical, dental, and vision insurance from day one of employment - 15 vacation days and 13 sick days accrued within first year - 14 paid holidays, including one floating holiday - Six weeks of Paid Parental Leave at 100% salary after six months of employment - 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution after one year - $50,000 Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance at no cost - Access to Employee Assistance Program resources at no cost - Chicago Bar Association Membership at no cost - Monthly internet reimbursement - Eligible employer for federal public service loan forgiveness program Application Process To apply, submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and contact information for two primary professional references and one alternative professional reference.
