Paralegal, Tenant Rights Coalition (Job#51_2023) - Bronx Legal Services Introduction: - Join the team at Bronx Legal Services and make a difference in the lives of low-income communities facing housing needs. - Work as a paralegal in the Tenant Rights Coalition (TRC) and help preserve affordable housing. - Be a part of a fast-paced environment and collaborate with housing advocates, lawyers, tenant organizers, and community partners. - Regular evening and occasional weekend outreach will be a part of the job. - The position offers excellent salary, benefits, and opportunities for growth and development. Job Responsibilities: - Conduct community education and outreach at off-site locations. - Advocate for tenants in administrative forums. - Provide litigation support in multi-plaintiff cases. - Research and investigate slumlords. - Assist in the administrative work of the TRC, including screening tenants for eligibility and coordinating follow-up services. - Regularly work with tenants, lawyers, tenant organizers, tenant associations, and community partners. Experience & Qualifications: - Experience working with diverse low-income communities. - Experience working with administrative agencies such as the Division of Homes and Community Renewal. - Excellent computer skills. - Excellent interviewing, writing, research, and communication skills. - College degree or equivalent experience preferred. - Experience entering and tracking information in electronic formats and running reports. - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. - Strong organizational skills. - Experience with housing law or landlord/tenant issues is a plus. - Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
