Job Overview

A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Labor Attorney to join its legal team based in the Hudson Valley region of New York. The ideal candidate will have experience advising management clients—particularly in the public sector—on a wide range of labor and employment matters. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an attorney who thrives on direct client interaction, enjoys working on both advisory and negotiation matters, and is comfortable traveling locally for client meetings.

This position focuses on representing educational institutions, municipal bodies, and private employers in labor relations, administrative proceedings, and general employment law counseling.

Duties

  • Represent public and private sector employers in labor negotiations, including collective bargaining and contract discussions.
  • Handle administrative proceedings, such as labor disputes, employee disciplinary hearings, and grievance arbitrations.
  • Provide comprehensive legal advice to clients on labor relations, employment policies, employee discipline, workplace investigations, and compliance with state and federal employment laws.
  • Draft and review contracts, policies, disciplinary charges, and legal memoranda related to labor and employment matters.
  • Participate in client meetings throughout the Hudson Valley region (no overnight travel required).
  • Collaborate closely with firm partners and other attorneys to develop effective strategies for labor negotiations and employment disputes.
  • Conduct legal research and draft advisory opinions on complex labor law and employment issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience practicing labor and employment law, with particular focus on management-side representation.
  • Demonstrated experience handling labor union negotiations, with public sector experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly to clients.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple clients and matters concurrently.
  • Commitment to client service, with a professional demeanor and strong attention to detail.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in the State of New York, in good standing.
