DLA Piper is seeking a Patent Development and Strategy Attorney for our law firm in Boston, Massachusetts. We also have openings in Palo Alto, California; Seattle, Washington; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Washington, District of Columbia; Reston, Virginia; and San Diego, California.

The successful candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution and must be familiar with patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence. They must also have a degree in chemical engineering or chemistry and be licensed to practice in the state where they will be working. Admission to the USPTO is also required.

We prefer candidates with immediately transferable skills and strong academic backgrounds from nationally recognized schools, as well as prior experience in a large or mid-sized law firm.

Job Title: Patent Development and Strategy Attorney

Salary: Expected annual pay range of $100,000 - $375,000 per year, depending on geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications.

Job Description:

The Patent Development and Strategy Attorney will be responsible for patent prosecution, client counseling, drafting patent applications, freedom to operate opinions, and due diligence. They will also work closely with clients and other attorneys to provide timely, accurate, and quality work product.

Responsibilities:

- Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties.
- Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence in an efficient and responsive manner.
- Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product.
- Successfully meet deadlines, expectations, and perform work duties as required.
- Foster positive work relationships.
- Comply with all firm policies and practices.
- Engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as working at a computer for extended periods of time, participating in digital/virtual conference calls, and participating in meetings as needed.
- Perform all other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Work Environment:

This position is a hybrid with some in-office expectations and some remote work, as appropriate. Some travel may be required.
