Senior Counsel, Employment
The candidate will provide legal advice and counseling on a wide range of labor and employment topics and matters, including performance management, employee discipline, wage and hour compliance, labor relations, compensation and benefits, employment agreements, immigration, leaves of absence and accommodations, internal investigations, contingent worker compliance, workers’ compensation, and unemployment. Draft employment-related policies and procedures. Act as an ongoing partner and resource to Human Resources. Investigate and respond to demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other pre-litigation inquiries. Draft and review employment and severance agreements. Help develop and conduct training on legal issues for employees, managers, and Human Resources. Conduct internal audits and evaluations of internal policies and practices to ensure compliance with business objectives and federal, state, and local laws. Help support expansion of operations into new locations, including the development of policies and practices and compliance with local employment laws and regulations. Partner with business clients to provide advice and creative solutions to complex problems. Identify legal risks and opportunities within the labor and employment area and propose practical, business-minded solutions. Monitor legal developments, new laws, and new decisions to ensure ongoing compliance with employment laws. Work seamlessly and collaboratively as a legal business partner to multiple internal business stakeholders. Report to the Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment.

Qualification and Experience The candidate should have 5 years of substantive labor and employment experience with a corporate legal department or law firm. Law degree (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited institution. Prior in-house and AmLaw 100 law firm experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to effectively relay complex information in a concise format. Practical business judgment. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects. Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively, being resourceful, and taking on additional responsibility. Eligible to practice law in California or Arizona.
