A law firm seeks an experienced commercial litigation associate to join its Detroit, Michigan office. This position offers a dynamic opportunity for an attorney with at least two years of civil litigation experience to work on a broad spectrum of complex legal matters. The ideal candidate will be eager to represent a variety of sophisticated clients while tackling cutting-edge topics in commercial disputes and play an integral role in driving high-stakes cases to resolution.

Duties:

  • Handle a diverse range of commercial litigation matters, including but not limited to contract disputes, business torts, insurance coverage, and complex civil cases.
  • Manage cases independently, from initial client consultations to trial preparation and court appearances.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and settlement agreements with precision and strategic foresight.
  • Develop case strategies in collaboration with senior attorneys, ensuring each matter progresses efficiently and effectively.
  • Engage directly with clients, providing clear and actionable legal counsel throughout the litigation process.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolutions to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Foster relationships with colleagues and clients, contributing to a collegial, team-focused environment.
  • Participate in formal mentorship and continuing legal education programs to enhance professional development.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of experience in civil litigation, ideally with exposure to commercial disputes, business torts, and insurance coverage matters.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to prepare and present complex legal arguments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including proficiency in drafting legal documents and engaging with clients.
  • Self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to take on significant case responsibility and work independently while remaining an integral team member.
  • Licensed to practice law in Michigan and Illinois, with good standing in both states.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar memberships in Michigan and Illinois.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities, with attention to detail and clarity.
  • Experience in managing commercial litigation cases from start to finish.
  • Negotiation skills and experience in settlement discussions.
  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Proficiency with case management software and legal research tools.
