## Staff Attorney: Foreclosure Prevention Organization is seeking an experienced and passionate Staff Attorney to join their Consumer, Finance, and Housing (CFH) Practice Group. This is an opportunity to have a significant impact on the lives of low-income New Yorkers. ### Job Responsibilities The Staff Attorney will be responsible for representing low and middle-income homeowners in Monroe County who are unable to meet their current mortgage obligations and need legal assistance to avoid foreclosure. The essential duties and responsibilities include: - Regularly meet grant deliverables - Defend and litigate residential foreclosure actions - Participate in statewide foreclosure funding campaigns - File claims to surplus money following foreclosure auction - Represent homeowners at foreclosure settlement conferences - Represent homeowners who have been targeted by predatory lending - Collaborate with local partners on foreclosure prevention outreach initiatives - Present at pro se clinics in collaboration with the Monroe County Supreme Court - Negotiate settlements, affordable workouts, and loan modifications for homeowners - Assist homeowners with exit options such as a short sale or deed in lieu of foreclosure - Work with low and moderate-income households in Monroe County, with a focus on foreclosure prevention direct services ### Qualifications The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications: - required - 2-8 years' experience preferred - Strong interest in working directly with clients - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Leadership and supervisory experience preferred - Ability to work independently and as part of a team - Spanish language proficiency is preferred but not required - Strong organizational skills and adept at managing multiple priorities - Background in real estate, foreclosure, home mortgages, and/or consumer credit preferred - Excellent negotiation skills ### Salary Salary is dependent on years of experience and based on the organizational pay scale.
