Job Description:
- Provides legal counsel and representation in civil, administrative, and regulatory matters for Brown County.
- Assists in juvenile matters, including CHIPs and Termination of Parental Rights actions.
- Represents Brown County agencies, employees, and officials in litigation proceedings.
- Provides legal opinions and advice to the County Board of Supervisors and its committees.
- Conducts legal research and prepares various legal documents.
- Investigates claims and complaints made against the County government and recommends action to be taken.
- Attends meetings and conferences as directed by the Corporation Counsel.
- Assists in long-range planning for the department and monitoring the implementation of strategic plans.
- Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge through seminars, training programs, and reading publications.
- Assumes additional responsibilities in the absence of the Corporation Counsel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Law Degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.
- Some legal experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of county, state, federal, and common law.
- Familiarity with constitutional law affecting county government.
- Understanding of judicial procedures and rules of evidence.
- Ability to utilize a computer and required software.
- Skills and abilities to perform the functions required of a municipal legal official.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to work required hours.

Brown County, located in Green Bay, WI, is currently seeking an Assistant Corporation Counsel (Attorney) to join their legal team. This full-time position offers a salary of $86, annually, as well as a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage. As an Assistant Corporation Counsel, you will assist the Corporation Counsel in providing legal counsel and representation for the county in civil, administrative, and regulatory matters. This includes handling juvenile matters such as CHIPs and Termination of Parental Rights actions. You will also have the opportunity to represent Brown County agencies, employees, and officials in litigation proceedings and provide legal opinions and advice to the County Board of Supervisors and its committees.
To be considered for this position, you must have a Law Degree from an accredited law school and be licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Wisconsin. While some legal experience is preferred, it is not required. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of county, state, federal, and common law, as well as familiarity with constitutional law affecting county government. Strong communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships are also essential for success in this role.
